Stop Slouching? Or Not?
November 29, 2006 on 3:57 pm | In Life and Leisure | No Comments
“The longstanding advice to “sit up straight” has been turned on its head by a new study that suggests leaning back is a much better posture.”
In a news story on Yahoo found here they are finding that leaning back is healthier for the back when sitting. Fascinating reading! They compared sitting at a 90 degree angle vs. 135 degree angle, scanned people and have some interesting answers. Check the story out for more information.
Guess we can tell our kids to stop slouching!

My Girl…Gracie
November 29, 2006 on 3:18 pm | In Life and Leisure, Family | No CommentsThis is “the girl”….Gracie. I call her “Girl” as much as by her name. Grace is a unique friend of mine. She’s half Sheppard, half Malamute…(our guess, she was a rescue and has been with us for more than 4 years)
She keeps me company as I sit here and do my online stuff. She’s got an independent streak half the time, while the other piece of her is insanely insecure about our cat Sebastian. Sebastian is a simple cat, black and white tuxedo in color. I’ll need to snag a picture of him later. This 120 pound dog runs to your side when the cat comes to your lap, “love me more, love me first, love me, love me.”
I’m a dog person and her big brown saucer eyes make me melt. She’s like a big old teddy-bear. She’s one of my buddies. I wanted to share a few pictures today of my housemates that keep me cozy during the day. They are like glue to me and follow me from room to room. I love that.
I love Gracie.
Little Boo’s Waking Hour
November 29, 2006 on 3:10 pm | In Life and Leisure, Family | No Comments
This is Little Boo, also known as Buster(his real name) and Bug or Buggy. He’s the baby of the bunch and he’s a character. This guy is like a living cartoon character and can have you smiling and laughing in no time. He oozes cuteness and can’t even help himself. It’s his secret weapon. He’s also a rescue, and he’s a Beagle mix, maybe a little something else in him, we aren’t sure. He joined our family about 2 years ago. He’s my buddy, and even though he weighed in at a whopping 48 pounds at his last vet visit, he believes he is a lap dog.
Boo had a little problem last night and his leg is a little tender. He likes to jump around with the Girl who outweighs him at 120 pounds…so he gets tender leg for a day or two after a rough play. He starts it! Anyway, he woke up with a little yelp last night after I had just crawled into bed. Little Boo was curled up on our leather sofa and then curled up onto me and started to drift off to sleep. The only problem is I wanted to go to sleep too, but not there, and not like that! I slowly slid out and climbed back into my own bed….nope, he came and got me. He needed reassurance, becasue his leg bothered him. So last night, I curled up on my rocker recliner and Little Boo and once he snuggled in, he was content….
As for this morning…he’s okay, and I think he slept better than I did!
Transferring Posts
November 29, 2006 on 3:05 pm | In Life and Leisure | No CommentsI’m in the process of sorting some posts and transferring them. I have over 750+ posts at a previous blog I was working with, and am moving some of those posts to this and another blog I’m building. Nothing is date relevent, so it won’t be “old” news…Thx for your patience as I continue to shift certain posts here, and others there.
Rosacea Can Look Like This
November 29, 2006 on 3:01 pm | In Life and Leisure, Family | No Comments

So this is me…yes, I know, my hair is shorter, a little darker and I’ve gained a couple more pounds since last year’s pic…it’s okay, you’ll see the gist of what I’m talking about…I’m involved with skin care so this is a topic I thought I’d discuss with pictures, so you can see the “flush” I’m speaking of. I’ve personally had Rosacea for close to 10 years. This first picture is with mineral make-up on. You can subdue the redness and appearance of broken capillaries with mineral make-up but the flush still finds it’s way through sometimes. The second picutre is of the cheeks area without any make-up on.
Rosacea is vascular in nature, and causes people to have a flushed appearance. The problem with rosacea, is if it’s left untreated, it can progress to great lengths.
Women tend to show on their cheeks, chin and forehead, where as men may get a “bulbous” nose and not understand the cause.
As Rosacea progresses, it can lead from redness and flushing to small bumps that look acne in nature. When I am stressed out, you can see it through my skin, as small bumps may form on my cheeks. Most cases of Rosacea are found in people between the ages of 30-50.

Navy SEAL Saves Life
November 29, 2006 on 2:50 pm | In Life and Leisure | No CommentsI brought this over from one of my other blogs, because I think it deserves extra attention…
I was reading this on Yahoo news and thought it deserved mention here. A Navy SEAL sacrificed his life to save his comrades by throwing himself on top of a grenade Iraqi insurgents tossed into their sniper hideout, fellow members of the elite force said.
It goes on to say…
Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael A. Monsoor had been near the only door to the rooftop structure Sept. 29 when the grenade hit him in the chest and bounced to the floor……..He never took his eye off the grenade, his only movement was down toward it,” said a 28-year-old lieutenant who sustained shrapnel wounds to both legs that day. “He undoubtedly saved mine and the other SEALs’ lives, and we owe him
The full article can be found here at Yahoo news.
I wanted to comment on this. Thank you to the men and women who put theirselves on the line for us daily. Thank you to the brave men and women who do something I don’t think I could ever do. How they face grave danger and choose to protect others, rather than run away…it humbles me. If a grenade landed near me, my only thought would be to run I suspect, unless my family was there, and then i guess my instincts would kick in. That’s the thing I guess, these men and women become a family…a family so tight, a bond so strong, that they die for each other. There is a new movie coming out called the “Flags of our Fathers” and one of the small comments that the announcer says really caught my attention and reminds me of what the man did…”The soldiers fought for their country, but died for their friends.”
May much peace and love be around this brave man and his family in their time of sorrow.
Hot List
November 29, 2006 on 2:44 pm | In Life and Leisure | No CommentsIn a news story on Yahoo, it lists the following toys as the hot ones for the season. The full story can be read here. This year’s Hot Dozen in alphabetical order:
** Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses by Mattel
** Bratz Forever Diamondz by privately held MGA
Entertainment
** Butterscotch My FurReal Friends Pony by Hasbro.
** Digi Makeover by Radica, which is now owned by Mattel.
** Fly Wheels XPV by Jakks Pacific Inc. (Nasdaq:JAKK - news)
** Kid Tough Digital Camera by Fisher-Price
** Lego Mindstorms NXT by Lego
** Magtastik by Mega Brands
** Monopoly Here & Now by Hasbro
** Speed Stacks StackPack by Jakks Pacific’s Play Along
** T.M.X. Elmo by Fisher-Price.
** Wii by Nintendo.
The Wii by Nintendo and Lego Mindstorms are ones that I just may have to keep my eyes on. I remember when the first Elmo craze came about, “Tickle ME Elmo” and my friend had a young daughter she wanted to get one for. We were on commando looking for that darn thing. I finally snagged one when they restocked one day, but it drives me crazy the mad rush for these things, and then the next thing you know…out of stock. Only to find super stuffed and full shelves come January. Makes you want to bang your head. Do you think they short supply things so there is all this hype over a product, or do you think they just run out because the demand is so high?
Falling in Love
November 28, 2006 on 11:32 pm | In Life and Leisure, Family | No Comments
I’m one of those lucky people who found a gem of a husband. He’s kind and patient…loving and genuine. He’s my best friend, and I feel so blessed he’s a part of my life. This is just a quick note to shout out my love to my guy!
Here’s hoping you feel that same crazy in love feeling I do! 7 years and I’m just as in love if not more than the moment we fell in love.
